PARENTS, FRIENDS & FAMILIES OF LESBIANS AND GAYS (PFLAG): National organization providing support, education and advocacy for parents, friends and families of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people. Many local chapters.
NATIONAL GAY & LESBIAN TASK FORCE: The national progressive organization working for the civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, with the vision and commitment to building a powerful political movement.
HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN: A national nonprofit organization advocating for equality and fairness for unmarried people, including people who choose not to marry, cannot marry, or live together before marriage.
GAY AND LESBIAN ALLIANCE AGAINST DEFAMATION: Dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of individuals and events in all media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
ALTERNATIVES TO MARRIAGE PROJECT: A national nonprofit organization advocating for equality and fairness for unmarried people, including people who choose not to marry, cannot marry, or live together before marriage.
GAY AND LESBIAN ADVOCATES AND DEFENDERS (GLAD): New England’s leading legal rights organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation, HIV status and gender identity and expression. Argued the Vermont case that resulted in civil unions.
LAMBDA LEGAL DEFENSE FUND: A national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, the transgendered, and people with HIV or AIDS through impact litigation, education, and public policy work.
TEACHING TOLERANCE. A place for educators to find thought-provoking news, conversation and support for those who care about diversity, equal opportunity and respect for differences in schools. Not LGBT-specific but includes resources that are.
INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA. Held on May 17 every year, IDAHO is a rallying event offering an opportunity for people to get together and reach out to one another. Free materials and resources are available on this site.
