In my 35 years at LGBTQ+ pride events, NEVER have I seen so much bi+ visibility as at this year’s #bostonpride !
I can remember the days when we would march under the bi banner and be received mostly with blank stares, very scattered applause, and even the occasional nasty comment. Now people wave and applaud and hoot and holler and seem genuinely excited to see us march past. And in the crowd, we see lots of bi+ colors and signs scattered throughout and people yelling out: “That’s me!”
And at City Hall Plaza, the Bisexual Resource Center’s booth is ALWAYS crowded.
One young woman said to me yesterday, as we passed: “Thank you for being here.” Her eyes filled with tears.
So did mine.
